Fool's Gold

All that glitters isn’t gold. The New Age religions certainly contain a lot of glitter, but gold is another matter. In particular, A Course in Miracles, allegedly channeled by Jesus Himself, contains a lot that dazzles. Here are some glittering quotes I picked up from an essay by Warren Smith (http://www.crossroad.to/articles2/007/smith-oprah.htm):

"There is no sin . . .The journey to the cross should be the last ' useless journey’…Do not make the pathetic error of 'clinging to the old rugged cross’…The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol... It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray…The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself…The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation.”

Sound familiar? It’s all about self! It’s your choice, it’s your ability, your purity and your wisdom! What a burden! What denial and what an illusion to have to maintain! But I think my dear friend, Tammy, says it best:

I'm not too surprised about Oprah [who is promoting the Course]. People will try anything to avoid facing their sin and the problem of evil if they reject Christ. Jesus Christ is the only person who can deal with the problem of sin and evil...There is no way to deal with sin without Christ. Without Christ, I had the choice of judging everyone who hurt me and say I was better than them, or I could say that they really didn't hurt me that badly and I was okay - neither of which was true. With Christ, I could admit that I was hurt very badly by sinners, but I was the same as them. If I'd been through what they'd been through, I would have done the same thing as them. Hallelujah - Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins, and forgives us and heals us of sin and the results of it.

I have been healed of a personality disorder, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue - you name it - since coming back to Christ. It sure wasn't by saying that none of these things existed!!

Tammy had pursued many therapies that glittered, at least to the passer-by. She revolved through their doors of promise to finally settle upon the Gold.

“You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me” (Rev. 3:17-20).
